Thursday afternoon I received a phone call informing me that our former office was on fire.
We were no longer in the building, after moving out in February of 2011. I don’t know the details or why it caught fire. Yet, what I do know is that most people don’t schedule in their office burning down.
Something like this can happen to anyone, the question is, if it happens to you, can your business survive? I don’t think anything containing electronic data could have survived this fire. Between the fire and the intense heat of the building burning for 4 hours, I just can’t imagine a paper filing system or a hard drive surviving this devastation. Even if something could, the amount of water that had to be continuously poured onto the building to keep the fire from spreading would have destroyed it.
With businesses relying more and more on electronic data, it’s more important than ever to make sure you have an offsite backup of your data.
